Description:

The precipitates from acetic acid are fine light yellow crystals. The relative molecular weight was 698.05. The melting point is 218 ～ 219 ℃. It is slightly soluble in water and soluble in ethanol, ether, ethyl acetate and benzene. It is very sensitive to alkali. When it comes to alkaline aqueous solution, it is blue-green. Bromocresol green can be used as an indicator. It is yellow when pH = 3.8 and blue-green when pH = 5.4.

Application:

Acid base indicator. Sodium salt is often used in colorimetric determination of pH. Acid base indicator, pH 3.8 (yellow) ～ 5.4 (blue). Its sodium salt solution is used as a chromogenic agent for the determination of pH value by spectrophotometry. It can be used as a reagent for the determination of aliphatic hydroxyl acids and alkaloids by TLC and the extraction and separation agent for the spectrophotometric determination of quaternary ammonium cations.
